Would I Still Understand Arkham City If I never Beat Arkham Asylum?

I'm thinking of adding Arkham City to my wishlist, but I never beat Arkham Asylum (Damn you exploding GARGOYLES!!!!!) But everybody says it's an amazing game, so, would I still be able to understand it?Would I Still Understand Arkham City If I never Beat Arkham Asylum?
It's great! A intense storyline with great cinematics, great characters, great atmosphere, easy to use and hard to master combat similar to Asylum, predator sections, challenge maps, side missions, riddler trophies, there's plenty of content and ZERO exploding gargoyles!!!Would I Still Understand Arkham City If I never Beat Arkham Asylum?
ADD IT. It's an incredible game. You get to play as cat woman(my favorite), batman and Robin. I only played 15% of arkham city because I lost the game but had no problem understanding arkham city. Yeah, you should be, I had no trouble when I played Arkham City and I've never played Asylum. All I did was read the plot of it on wikipedia. It really is an amazing game.
