Should I buy Batman Arkham Asylum before I buy Batman Arkham City?

I was just wondering because alot of my friends said that Arkham Asylum was an okay game but not all that great. Though Arkham city looks so fun and awesome. Should i go through the trouble to buy Arkham Asylum as well to follow the storyline or should i just buy Arkham City right away?Should I buy Batman Arkham Asylum before I buy Batman Arkham City?
There is some content in the game you might not pick up on if you haven't played Arkham Asylum but the same could be said for players who dont read comics.. Yes you do need to buy Batman Arkham Asylum. The point of the two games it to connect them and see the character adaptations and so you would know what is happening on some scenes in Arkham City.
